Renting

We recommend Hertz Argentina for car rentals throughout the country. We have found their service to be reliable and helpful. HERTZ is present in the main cities and airports of Argentina and it has the largest fleet in the market. They offer a full range of vehicles, including economy, deluxe and special vehicles with manual and automatic gearbox and also 4x4s, Minivans and Maxivans. They have roadside assistance, and will replace your vehicle in case of breakdown. Infant car seats, ski racks, luggage racks, and extra spare tires are all available.

If you would like to reserve a vehicle, or would like a transfer, please contact us using the link in the top-right corner of this page.

Age

In Argentina, the minimum age required for renting a Hertz vehicle is 21 years.

Drivers License

Your drivers license must be valid during the entire rental period. Any license issued in Argentina, and licenses issued in countries that are part of the Geneva Convention (or in the Convention on Regulations of Inter-American Automobile Traffic) are accepted in Argentina. International drivers licenses are also accepted. For driving licenses written in languages than in the Roman alphabet, an international drivers license is required. International drivers licenses are valid only if they are accompanied by the driving license from the country of origin.

Air Conditioning

If you are travelling between September and April inclusive, air conditioning is recommended.

CDW: Collision Damage Waiver (general information)

You can purchase insurance from your car rental company or from other sources which will pay the rental company for their costs in repairing damage or replacing the car in case of theft of the rental vehicle. You can also sign a CDW form to legally waive the insurance offer from the rental company. Many credit card companies provide you with this insurance as one of the benefits of using the card. Generally the credit card insurer requires that you pay for the rental IN FULL on your card, which means also paying for any deposits or surcharges on that particular card. There may also be a maximum time period, often 45 days, as well as a vehicle type restriction. For example, some cards will cover a BMW but not a Porsche, even though the BMW may be faster or more expensive. It is very impornt to check with your credit card card for their terms and conditions regarding the provision of CDW.  Make sure that you carefully read the  precise terms and conditions of your credit card agreement, most of which are available on-line from your credit card company's site.  This service can save you up to 25% of the cost of the rental.

If you do have an accident, the CDW insurer will typically require you to advise them within 48 hours. Make sure you take the telephone numbers of your insurer (credit card company) with you. You will also need to call the car rental company and give them details (location, time, events) of the incident. It is important to keep a note of all the people you talk to at both the credit card company and rental agency, with names and dates.

Driving

Always try to find a safe parking spot and do not leave belonings inside your vehicle. Be sure to store as much as possible in the trunk, and remove any stereo faceplates (if your car has them).

If you intend to rent a car and drive (RN40) in Patagonia and the Northwest, it is best to rent a pickup truck because of its higher clearance. 4x4's are even better. Travelling in a sedan is possible, however this requires slower driving and less weight. You may also want to bring along two spare tires and a spray for emergency flat tires.

Be very careful crossing streets as drivers tend not to give the right of way to pedestrians. Argentinians often treat their roads like a racetrack and there are generally no rules. Traffic signals are often ignored. Avoid driving in the cities - unless you are really adventurous!
