Located in the town of Tilcara (2474 mts above sea level), surrounded by colourful tree-covered hills, scented lavender and lit by the constant sun of the Humahuaca Quebrada, is the small, friendly inn Posada con los Angeles. The inn has eleven guestrooms - seven superior rooms and four estudio rooms (which are bigger than the superior rooms). All the guestrooms face the garden, which is the heart of the inn, and all have panoramic views to the Pena Alta and Huichaira Hills. The rooms are spacious, with a little hall and fireplace and the full bathrooms feature sandstone and have shower and hairdryer. The building is of a regional-modern style incorporating local building techniques (adobe walls and cane roof covered with matting) with smooth cement floors. The furnishings are natural and confortable with a neutral colour scheme. There are many reproductions of angels - hence the name - from the school of Cuzco, the originals of which can be found in the colonial churches of Uquia and Casabindo. The restaurant is intimate with big garden-facing windows. The chef combines international cuisine with a variety of local ingredients from the Quebrada. Llama meat and lamb, fresh vegetables, old local recipes and typical northern tastes are featured. This hotel is in the heart of Tilcara - MSN shows Tilcara in the wrong place.

Notes Tilcara is one of the biggest towns in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, with about 3000 inhabitants. From the chain of pucaras along the Quebrada, the Pucarà of Tilcara was partially rebuilt, according to history. There are wonderful views of the access to the Quebrada. The part which has not been rebuilt is of considerable interest to archaeologists. The high botanical garden gives an interesting insight into the native plant species. The church of Tilcara was built around 1797, and opened in 1865. The Museum Ernesto Soto Avendano is dedicated to the sculptor who created the monument to the Independence of Humahuaca. Visit the Native Painting Museum, the Archaeological Museum (which has an important collection of archaeological remains from different times and sources.) On Wednesday, during Holy Week, pilgrims bring the Copacabana Virgin overpraise down from Punta Corral; on Holy Friday, people make the stations of the Cross in front of the hermitages, artistically beautiful huge standards made up by the neighbours with flowers and dry fruit. These standards are renewed every year and then they are showed at the respective museum.
