|
Why |
The Humahuaca gorge was declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002 for its unique synthesis of spectacular landscapes and cultural and archaeological richness. The most important attraction of Purmamarca is the beautiful seven-colour hill, which looms over the town. Amazing walks provide the visitor with a myriad of perspectives from which to view this natural wonder. Travelling through Humahuaca gorge brings you to the enchanting town of Tilcara, a town rich in history and culture. With adobe architecture and quaint dusty streets, Tilcara stretches into the valley’s lush green pastures, which makes this town so appealing. It well known for the archaeological fortress (Pucara) located on top of a nearby hill, 3 km from the town. |

Accommodation |
The hotels which we have selected within Quebrada de Humahuaca are all hotels built in the tradition of the area: adobe (mud bricks), cane and cactus wood. All very comfortable and cosy, they reflect a strong Andean influence. Tilcara is the archeological capital of the region, and it can be clearly noted in the local gastronomy. Most have rescued ethnic ingredients and techniques to create gourmet traditional cuisine. |
