Poncho Huasi

Poncho Huasi is an old colonial house set in the stunning countryside of north west Argentina. It's the perfect getaway, and the ideal spot to relax and explore the landscape and traditions of Salta. With its traditional adobe walls and terracotta tiled floor, the house has been lovingly restored and skilfully renovated to provide 21st century comforts, not least of which is a large swimming pool. Poncho Huasi is in the sleepy town of Cerrillos, 20 mins from Salta city centre, in the heart of the tobacco region; ideally situated at the gateway to the Calchaquies valleys and the wine region of Cafayate. With only four guest rooms, there’s a relaxed atmosphere. There are two gardens (one containing the swimming pool and a spectacular view of the hills), a breakfast room leading out onto the terrace, and a large living room with real log fire. Among the modern comforts added to this traditional colonial house are cable TV and wifi internet, so you can keep in touch with the real world as much or as little as you want to. Nick, an Englishman, and his Argentine wife Alicia, offer a personal service from beginning to end: they’ll pick you up from the airport and bring you to Poncho Huasi where you’ll soon forget the stresses of modern life amidst the tranquil surroundings. They are happy to draw up a menu of excursions and arrange every detail of your holiday. Alicia, a teacher, also offers residential Spanish courses. There are a few restaurants within walking distance but it is advisable to have a car at this location so that you can fully explore the area. Tours can be arranged for you.
