Its colonial roots date from 1609, when Salta’s patriot, General Martin Martín Miguel de Guemes led his Gaucho cavalry to victory over the Spaniards during the War of Independence. The property is still in his descendant’s care. The El Bordo de las Lanzas building presents a pure Spanish colonial style, mainly built of adobe brick and harwoods from the property’s own forests and is one of the best examples of colonial rural architecture in all Salta. It holds an outstanding collection of colonial furniture. Cozy rooms decorated with interesting furniture and artefacts: religious paintings and furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries, hand-carved images made by Jesuit missionaries, archeological articrafts that have been found in the property, a valuable library with century old books and documents, attractive porches and a courtyard surrounded by verandas are ideal for relaxing and enjoying the lovely landscape. Its owners, the Arias family, are excellent hosts. The food features local and natural delights many of which come from the farm. Argentine-Peruvian Paso horses are also bred in the farm and you can go for a ride through the woodland and along the natural reserve of “yacares” (South American cayman). Thanks to its excellent location, you can take day excursion from El Bordo de las Lanzas to the colorful Humahuaca Gorge (a World Heritage Site), the salt lakes and Puna desert, or visit the unique wineries and colonial churches of the Calchaquies valleys.
