Introduction

Where

The most important cities of Argentina are in this region -  Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Rosario.  The word “Pampa” means in the quechua language “plain without trees”. Thousands of hectares unfold along the Pampa interrupted only by the Tandill and La Venatana sierras, at  500 and 1,200 above sea level meters respectively. This is the richest area of the country, where the cattle breeding and the cereal cultivation excel, and where the Argentinian gauchos gained their fame.
To the East, the Atlantic coast destinations are very appealing.  The beaches follow one another for thousand kilometers and there are different beaches for each style and taste: well known and fashionable beach resorts, as well as almost deserted ones.  The main city of the region is Buenos Aires “la Reina del Plata” (as the “tango” names it), although Córdoba and Rosario strive to show their importance and appeal.

When

All year long. The average rain is said to be one day out of every four, during the four seasons of the year.    The humidity and heat of the cities may be unbearable in the summer,  which is  why they are generally deserted during the months of January and February when everyone heads to the coast or the mountains.

Why

To live a “gauchesca” experience and to enjoy the endless horizons. To “let oneself be” in a typical Argentinian “Estancia” (country house).  To enjoy a horse riding or a “jineteada”.  To watch the best Polo games or a Pato match. To delight oneself in eating a good barbecue or an incredible “bife de corizo”. To watch a classic Boca-River match, or simply to visit museums, go shopping and to get to know the different facets of the delightful Argentinian people.

Accommodation

The greatest protagonists of this region of Argentina are the numerous “Estancias”, country houses specially devoted to cattle breeding.  They are the best alternative for those who want to slow down, enjoy the countryside and relax.  Vast, tidy spaces, great cooking and friendly people as well as a wide range of activities. A visit to an Estancia when you visit Argentina is essential. It is a good plan to rent vehicle so that you can cover the vast expanse of countryside between the major tourist centres.
